The 58XX No. 5812 is one of only 20 of this class. Built
31.08.1933 at Swindon Works. 1948 Shed 83B. The last shed 89A Oswestry.

Introduced in 1933 for light branch work. Not fitted with
push-pull control apparatus. Locomotive weight 41 tons 6 cwt. Driving wheels 5’
2”. Trailing wheels 3’ 8” Boiler was of the Group 7 SS type, still carrying a
dome. With a pressure of 165lb/sq. in NS. Cylinders: Value Gear: Stephenson (slide
valves) Two 16” x 24” (inside) TE: 13,900 lb.
They were designed in 1932 by Mr Collett to take the place of
the old 517 class.
