Gauge Fine scale Museum Quality Model No. 2477 Class 2301 0-6-0
Manufactured by Lee Marsh Model Co and produced in South Korea
by SMT. The model is in Great Western period 4 livery (1934-1942) Green and
Black with monogram. Fitted with DCC ESU sound decoder.
A total of 260 GWR 2301 class locomotives were built between
1883 and 1899 at the GWR Swindon Works. No. 2477 entered service in April 1896
and withdrawn in October 1944, with a service life of 44 years. In October 1940
it was renumbered 143 by the War Department. Designed by William Dean the 2301 class
was extremely long lived and wide- ranging being found abroad for both world
wars. Locomotive weight 36.8 tons and the tender 34.25 tons. Driving wheels 5ft
2in. With a boiler pressure of 180 psi and two inside cylinders of 17in x 24in
it had a TE of 17,120 lbf. Only one locomotive, no 2516 (built 1897) has
survived into preservation. It is currently a static display at Swindon Steam
Railway Museum.
